Thompson Traders Unveils Japanese Art Inspired Kintsugi Fireclay Sinks

At the Spring 2025 High Point Market, Thompson Traders introduced something truly stunning for the kitchen: the Kintsugi Collection of fireclay apron sinks. Alejandra Thompson de Jordan, VP of Marketing & Sales, shared the inspiration behind this exciting new launch.

The Japanese Art of Kintsugi as Kitchen Inspiration

The collection takes its name from Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. Instead of hiding cracks, Kintsugi celebrates them, turning them into something more valuable and beautiful than before they were broken.

Handcrafted Fireclay Sinks with Gold, Silver, or Copper Inlay

Thompson Traders embraced this idea by collaborating with local artist Trevor Waring. Instead of pottery, he works with their handcrafted fireclay sinks. Using a Dremel tool, he carves graceful patterns across the apron fronts. These designs are then carefully inlaid with 23-karat gold, fine silver, or copper, creating a striking visual statement.

Customizable Designs for Interior Designers and Homeowners

Designers and homeowners can choose from three styles: bold, medium, or light. But because Thompson Traders is known for custom work, the options don’t stop there. You can pair your favorite design with your choice of metal, or even send in a design of your own to be carved and filled. The result is a sink that feels both heirloom quality and completely personal.

Blending Fireclay and Metal for A Unique Kitchen Style

This launch also represents a bold step for Thompson Traders. Known for their luxury kitchen and bath products, specifically range hoods, sinks and tubs, and hand-hammered metals, the company is now blending their signature craft with fireclay, opening the door to exciting possibilities in kitchen design.

For interior designers and homeowners looking for a showstopping focal point, this introduction is one to use for a personal touch in the kitchen.
