Top Pinterest Home Trends for 2020

By Jennifer Bringle

We all know Pinterest as the go-to social channel for inspiration for just about any project, from birthday cakes to holiday crafts. And in the home category, it’s a treasure trove of inspiration, how-tos and trends.

Now the site has catalogued some of the hottest trends for the home this year. Here are the top Pinterest home trends for 2020.

Audio Rooms

Whether outfitted with a vintage-style turntable or tricked out with the latest gadgets and surround sound, rooms designed specifically for listening to music are hot right now. And particularly now as people are stuck at home, being able to replicate the concert experience in the comfort of your own home is more important than ever.

Home Theaters

Similarly, having your own setup for screening the latest movies or binge-worthy shows has become a major trend. More than just a sofa and a TV, home theaters often include surround-sound systems, multi-tiered seating and even built-in refrigerators to make snack breaks quick and easy.

Garden Rooms

Bring the outdoors in with a garden room. Whether it’s a full-on greenhouse setup or simply adding potted plants, hanging baskets or even bringing a potted tree into a room, adding a little greenery to your space can improve your wellbeing and reduce stress.

Indoor Microgreens

Want to take that indoor gardening to the next level? Plant your own microgreen garden inside. According to Pinterest, everything from herbs to salad greens can be grown in pots indoors—talk about farm to table!

Indian-inspired Living Rooms

According to Pinterest, living spaces influenced by Indian designs—think bright colors, shining brass and oversized sculptures—are big this year both in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Japanese Soaking Tubs

Extra-deep with a built-in bench seat, Japanese soaking tubs have become a hot item for homeowners looking to add a little spa-like comfort to their own bathroom.

Spanish-Style Bathrooms

Another big bathroom trend according to Pinterest is the Spanish influence on bathroom design. Spanish-style archways, decorative tile and more add European flair.

French Antiques

Want to add European flair to other rooms, too? Pinterest says adding French antique-style accents like patinated mirrors and french style linens are a major trend in homes right now.

Granny Pods

Making room for extended family can be tough, but granny pods—small modular cottages often outfitted with high-tech medical extras—can be a simpler solution for making space for elderly relatives.

Coffee Stations

Who needs Starbucks when you have your own brewing station at home? Make it extra-special with hooks for displaying mugs and an assortment of flavored syrups to create your own at-home specialty drink.

Indoor Water Fountains

The soothing sound of moving water has become a big trend in the home according to Pinterest, with many pinners searching indoor fountains, ponds and more.
