You Touch Them Every Day—Why Shouldn’t Light Switches Be Beautiful?

The British brand Corston Architectural Detail takes a human, understated approach to light switches, outlets, lighting, and hardware, proving the details we touch every day deserve design attention, too.

We touch light switches and door handles every single day, so why shouldn’t they be beautiful?

That was our thought when we met Nick Burrows, Global Sales & Strategic Projects Director at Corston Architectural Detail. The British brand is paying attention to the small architectural details in the home we use daily, but rarely stop to notice.

Founded in the UK, Corston focuses on architectural essentials, including light switches, outlets, door hardware, and lighting. The look is elegant: simple and understated, with the warmth and substantial feel of solid brass.

Solid Brass Light Switches Made to Be Seen—and Touched

Something else we liked: Corston thinks about these small details as part of the whole room, rather than individual pieces.

“The vision really is the door handle will then match the lighting all the way through to the switches and outlets,” Burrows told us.

The hardware comes in bronze, polished nickel, and antique brass. Antique brass is a living finish, so it gradually changes and develops character with time and use. For something your hands interact with every day, we think that makes it even more personal.

Elegant Light Switches With Some Clever Details

Plenty is going on behind the good looks, too.

We got a closer look at the clean, screwless switch plates, plus they offer paintable and clear options that almost disappear into the wall. The dimmers remember your previous brightness setting, and outlets are available with USB-C fast charging.

They’re thoughtful little details: the kind you might not notice until you start using them.

Light Switches That Work in Traditional and Contemporary Interiors

What we find most interesting about Corston is that the look doesn’t belong to just one design style. The simple forms feel at home in modern and contemporary spaces, while the solid brass and naturally aging finishes make sense alongside traditional and period architecture, too.

It’s nice to see that elegant, beautiful interiors aren’t only about the big things; they can be as simple as the light switch you reach for every morning.
