From High Point Market: Ron Fiore of Hickory Chair Talks Inspiration for Collection 10/24/11
Hickory Chair is celebrating its 100th anniversary this market. Ron Fiore is their creative director and probably one of the most talented show room designers I know. I spoke with Ron about where his inspiration came from for the show room.
RON: I was in New York one day and I was just walking down the street. And I spotted this lady, she was actually coming out of Barney’s New York and she was wearing a black skirt and a white blouse and she had this incredible sort of grey sort of trench coat. You know it looked like something that would have been Christian Dior. And she was carrying this incredible taxi cab yellow hand bag. You know big Hermes handbag and I just stood there silent. That’s the inspiration for this market. And then Tobi Fairley we worked on a show house together. Got to be friends with Tobi Fairley, she is also a big client of ours and we have huge regard for her and to me she is best of kind for the woman whose house she dresses. And she told about her self produced fabric line. She sent me a bunch of samples. And then as I was opening the samples, I was like there is the lady in New York and it just sorta fit together and it just all felt fresh to me. And that how it all came about. So for me the color and the large scale colors and the exuberant stripes they sort of said kind of celebrate to me so that was how I guess all this came about.
