Sometimes gifts you receive are wrapped so beautifully, you don’t want to tear the gift wrap to get to the gift! I came across a very cool product that makes it easy to enjoy a beautiful gift presentation, while still making it guilt-free to open. The gift wrap is the gift itself!
Little Kay Gardens, an online boutique, offers Gift Wrap That Grows, a flowering seeded gift wrap kit. Rather than throwing away your gift wrap, you plant it! This is a great eco-friendly product that reduces waste. The gift wrap is made of 100% recycled paper, and embedded in the paper are seeds of corn poppy, red coreopsis, plain coreopsis, black-eyed Susans, baby snapdragons, and other plants. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving! Most of these plants can be grown as perennials and annuals.
All you have to do is place the gift wrap paper down in a 3-4 inch hole, put some topsoil or peet moss over the paper, and water each day. When planted, they at first look like weeds, but then come in full and look similar to a patch of wildflowers. Once they’re established, you can transplant them to other garden areas.
Another neat element of Little Kay Gardens is that they employ local non-profit organizations to make and package their products, specifically the Van Buren Community Mental Health organization located in Bangor, MI. I definitely like to support businesses who give back to their community!
