From High Point Market: Dwell Studios Talks New Products, Styles, and Concepts 10/26/11
Christiane Lemieux of Dwell Studios spoke with me about their new products they are introducing at Market, colors and concept for the company. Some of the big trends we are seeing is really eclectic interiors. And by that, I mean people are buying items as opposed to sets. I think in the past, furniture was very much sold as groups or settings and I think now discerning buyers are picking up items from all over the place and mixing and matching them in a very artful way. Some of the things that make furniture eclectic are different finishes. So, we are seeing a lot of warm woods coming back; we are showing French Oak finishes here. We do a really beautiful Belgium grey. Another thing that is making a big comeback is brass. So, brass accents. So, we are seeing these warm toned accents all over the place. Kind of replacing that standard nickel finish and I think people really want to put a personal stamp on their interiors these days. I love occasional pieces and I think that that’s where we can really shine with this eclectic interior. So, everything from this beautiful circular marble table to the Crosby library table that you are looking at right now and it swivels. So, just by adding some of these really interesting designs to tables you can create interiors and a table can actually be like a piece, a centerpiece in your home. So, we really designed around that. We love the idea of form and function. So, something that is as functional as a table being as beautiful as a sculpture. So we really tried to do that with our new Gazelle table. Really make it form and function. We’ve always been sort of known as the modern lifestyle company so our look is very much rooted in the European mid-century, so we love all those clean lines and I think it is especially because clean lines support some of our bigger, bolder prints. So, it’s a really nice marriage of print and texture and clean lines and that is really who we are.
